"Change your attitude toward yourself, and believe in your connectedness to the higher energy of God, even in the direst of circumstances. Turn anything that seems problematic over to your Higher Self, trusting that the "problem" is not what it seems to be." -Dr. Wayne Dyer

Unknown

Unknown to this world
Ready for the journey
I will find my path, it is destined to find me
Up for the challenge, the world calls to me
To breathe in, to soak in the sun to feel the dirt
My senses are filled in awe of the gift which is life
To know my meaning to know myself to know my creator
Within me I see the light
The light begins to envelop me
I shine everything I touch aglow

The Idea

The Idea

It was a quiet day at the ad agency. And Tom was ready for the pitch meeting that was about to start. The men and women sat at the conference table. Each looking down at their phones that lay before them. No one making small talk not even subtle glances from one to another. All of them consumed in themselves. All but Tom, he never kept his phone on him. He thought the phone was a hand held prison. It was solidarity confinement that people seemed to not notice. Tom sat upright in his chair looking at the prisoners in front of him. Tom smiled. He turned to the woman to his left, 'beautiful morning, huh Jan?'
The woman didn't even look up from her device and with an irritated tone to her voice said, 'sure is Bob'
'It's Tom.'
'Right, Don. Morning.' The woman said her eyes still glued to her screen.
Where most might have been bothered by the woman not knowing their name, Tom found it amusing.
A man in an expensive suit walked through the open doorway and took a seat at the head of the conference table. 'Good morning everyone.' He said surly. You could have heard a pin drop.  No one seemed to not notice. No one looked up from their phones. 'It's come to my attention that our numbers are at an all time low! You know what that means?! You are making me look bad! You report to me and I report to those above me.'
The room quiet. No one moved. Still heads down focused on their phones. The only one present...Tom.
'I need ideas! Good ones. The ones at our last meeting were mediocre at best.'
No one said a word. A few raised heads with blank stares were all the boss got.
Tom raised his hand as he spoke to try and gather everyone's attention, 'sir the higher ups are wanting something new, something different?'
'That's what I said isn't'
'It seems like the more and more arcades and theaters we are making the less they are in demand. I understand they are at full capacity and are way above budget...'
'Do you have an idea or are you just boring me with what I already know.'
'What I'm trying to say, the people will pretty much do whatever we throw at them. We've become a society where we do as we are told. We get distracted easily. Look at this group of men and women for example they can barely resist the urge to not look at their phones!' He surveyed the room where most of the men and women had once again regained focus on the phones in their hands, mesmerized by the screen. Not aware of the current conversation at hand. 'What is happening to our society? Do we really want to create another form of entertainment or device to create more zombies?!'
'what do you suggest?'
'More projects developing parks, interactive libraries where you can go and learn! To move physically and be challenged mentally.'
'Is that so.' The boss said coolly, raising an eyebrow.
'Yes!' Tom sighed. He hadn't realized he had bottled all that in for all these years.
The boss picked up the phone and pressed only three numbers then said into the phone, 'we have another one...yes unfortunately...he doesn't even have his phone or any other device on his persons...yes I saw him even reading a book the other day...he tried to make small talk earlier with a coworker we caught it on the security camera right before I entered the room. Yes immediate extraction would be great. '
Tom looked startled. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. 'Can you believe this?' He said while looking from one co- worker to another? No one budged. 'Hello?! Are you guys hearing this?' He was about to stand up placing his weight on his hands as he was about to push himself up from the chair. But as he began doing so he saw hand restraints coming from the chair and closing tightly around his wrists as another restraint came from the back of the chair around his waist. He was now confined to the chair. 'HELP!' He shouted to the men and women. 'Do something! Help me! Can't you see and hear what's happening?' He pleaded.
Just then two well dressed men rushed in.
'Thank God! You heard me. Help. I don't know what I've done. Please help me.'
'Is that him?' Asked one of the men. The boss nodded. 'He's a talkative one.'
'Yes. He never stopped trying to get the others attention. Sad really. Thinking another human could be worth another humans time.' The boss lifted his hand and gave a 'take him away' gesture. The two large well dressed men approached Tom. One man pulled out handcuffs, placed one on Tom's wrist then pressing a button that released the restraints holding him down. Tom immediately began to struggle and yell knocking his chair to the floor. 'What is wrong with you people!' The man placed the other handcuff on Tom's other wrist. The other man kicked Tom in the back of the knee making it impossible for Tom to run away, he could barely walk now. He continued to yell and put up a fight. The two men dragged him out of the room and closed the door behind them. Soon distant screams could be heard...then silence.
The boss turned to the group, 'so any ideas'
A man still staring at his screen said nonchalantly, 'how about we make the movie screen even bigger at the theater and place additional screens on the surrounding walls. And make the sound louder.'
'That's an excellent idea. The men upstairs will be pleased to hear it. This meeting is over, go back to your cubicles.'
The men and women. Got up from their chairs, heads still down, not aware of the empty chair that now lay lifeless on the floor.

The Man who knew too much

Once there was a man who knew too much. He would walk along the sidewalks as neighbors would smile and wave hello. But he knew. Oh he knew. For you see he knew too much. He returned their friendliness with a suspicious glare. What a tired life he led, knowing too much. He knew exactly why the sun rose and set each day. He knew why the sky was blue. He knew everything. He just knew.
Many would ask the old man to join their trivia team, they met Wednesday nights at the bar.  He'd always turn down the invitation, there was no fun in that at all. 'I just know too much,' he'd say while gesturing the crowd to move, 'now go away.'
Others would come in groups from miles away to ask the man who knew too much, 'what's the meaning of life?' Many leaving disappointed when the man would say, 'the meaning of life is nothing!'
A young man from the crowd shouted, 'you know nothing! He's a fraud! If I knew everything I'd tell the world everything!'
The man who knew too much pointed to the young man, 'you...yes you. You say I know nothing?! I wish that were true. I have been burdened to know everything, even everything about you. Come here young man and I'll share my secret.'
The young man making his way through the crowd joined the old man, he met the old man's stare as he looked into his young eyes, 'I too was once like you, wanted to know everything. Then one day I came across a worn out looking fellow who claimed he knew too much. Not knowing any better I asked him to share his knowledge with me. The man obliged looking extremely tired as I am now. And leaned in and whispered in my ear...' The man who knew too much now drew the young man in closer, 'you sure you want to know everything? You're life will never be the same. I warn you, unlike the fellow before me.'
'You are a fraud. You know nothing. Just an old fool. You have this crowd and town believing some story you've made up about how you know everything. Go on old man tell me, what's your secret. Tell me so I can know everything,' the young man's mocking tone voiced. As he faced the crowd, seeing many had become uninterested and left.
'Don't say I didn't warn you.' The man who knew too much leaned in even closer and whispered something in the young mans ear. The young mans eyes widened. Bewilderment raced across his face, 'but it can't be,' he said turning to face the old man, 'it just can't be.'
'What can't be?' The old man smiled.
'I...I...I know too much!'
'How strange...'
'What did you do?'
'One gets tired of knowing too much. And sometimes one is lucky enough to run into a future know it all. Today I found you, but I knew I would, I knew you'd be here today. I knew you'd be more than willing to take this curse away. It's been more than 52 years I've lived with knowing it all. It's kept me isolated in so many ways. And now I've passed it on to you. It's taken me many years to learn my lesson. I wonder how many years it will take you. And it's a great feeling not to know. I genuinely don't know.' He looked up to the sky then back to the young man, 'soon people will be saying, there goes the young man who knows too much, not caring or wanting to know your name. No. They'll be asking you benign questions. Innocent at heart really. But it does tend to take a toll.'
'What am I to do now?' Asked the young man.
'I believe you know the answer to that question.'
'Oh my...' The look of stupor slapped him in the face. 'I do.' Said the young man who knew too much.
An old man in his early eighties was sitting on a park bench when a young girl came and sat next to him. 'You're that crazy man who claims he knows everything.'
'I do know everything.'
'Sure...sure you do grandpa.' She snickered, 'what's the meaning of life then?'
The man who knew too much laughed.
'What's so funny!' The girl demanded.
'The meaning of life...' Still laughing, 'the meaning of life is nothing!'
'I knew you didn't know anything!' She said with a smirk on her face, 'you know nothing at all. I know more than you.'
'Really? Want to know everything?' He asked as he leaned in closer looking into her young eyes.
'Yes.' She said she couldn't help leaning in. 'I want to know everything!'
'You sure?' He smiled.
'Of course you old man! Are you deaf too?'
The man who knew everything leaned in even closer and whispered something in the young girls ear...

The Magic Toad

The playground was quiet today as Laney sat by herself on the swing set feeling lonely. A little toad hopped along side her and stopped in front of her.
'Hello there little toad.' Laney said trying to produce a smile. 'You are lucky little toad. I wish I could hop away from here.' She began to fight back tears.
'Why the tears little one' she heard someone croak.
Laney looked at her feet and saw the toad's glossy eyes staring up at her. She looked from side to side seeing no one near her, all the other children playing on the playground far away. 'Who is there? Come out. What an awful joke to play.' Wiping her eyes she saw as the toad began to speak, 'little one what has made you feel so sad?'
'I feel so dumb, that I don't belong.'
'Why?'
'I tried making jokes and the other kids stared at me blankly. I felt so dumb. So I ran over to the swings to be by myself.'
'It must feel lonely over here by yourself.'
'It is'
'Why not rejoin the others?'
'I can't I'm too afraid'
'Well it just so happens I'm a magic toad and I am here to help.'
Laney brightened a bit, 'you are?'
'I am,' the toad began to glow, 'and with my magic I will help you to be brave. All you have to do is say, "I am fearless."'
Laney looked suspicious, 'that's all?'
'And believe it. That's what the magic is for, it will help you believe you are fearless. But soon the magic will wear off and you will have to believe on your own.'
'I believe' Laney stood up, 'I am fearless!' She began to glow, turning to the toad she whispered, 'thank you toad.' As she skipped to the playground.
